My boyfriend has the tendency to lie. Nothing real serious, but he fabricates stories and tells me he's going home when he's actually going out with his guy friends. When I ask him why he lies he kind of feeds me the line of "I didn't want you to think I'd rather be with my guy friends" or "it was just a white lie, who cares"? Is this a serious problem?

The lies that your boyfriend is telling you are no big deal, however, the potential to grow to a bigger problem is there. If he can get away with a white lie, why not a lie about something more serious? I wouldn't be too upset right now, but I would sit down and talk to him about how seriously this is affecting you and your relationship.
