You did what you could...I know that's probably not what you want to hear, but there isn't much more to be done. He is choosing to not believe you. If you keep pushing it and bringing it up, it'll just make him more distant from you. Leave it alone for a while, and your friend will know in his heart what the truth is. Hopefully this doesn't end your friendship, you sound like a good guy to have around!
