Dear Abby,
I just recently started dating a young man that I am absolutely smitten with. He is charming, good looking, and pretty much everything that I want. We've only been dating for 1 1/2 months, but I absolutely can't live without him. We laugh all the time and he is my best friend. Here is the problem. We both currently live in Appleton, but his family lives in Madison. We are both very close with our families and do not want to give up Christmas with them, but we'd also like to be together during that time. What do you suggest?
Undecided in Appleton
Dear Undecided,
I've been in your situation before. It is hard when you have families that live in different cities, but if you really try, you can make it work. Christmas is technically two days. Maybe go to Madison on Christmas Eve and come home for Christmas. If that doesn't work consider the future. You are still in a honeymoon phase, but if you really feel like this is it, make a compromise that you'll go to Madison this year for Christmas, but you'll stay in Appleton next year. Also, you didn't mention this, but did you meet the family yet? Christmas might be an exciting time for him to introduce his new girlfriend to his family...and remember, you live in Appleton and can see your family more than he can see his. Show your passion for him by giving him a memorable Christmas in Madison.
