McCarthy updates injuries

by Mark Daniels

Packers Head  Coach Mike McCarthy said late this morning, a decision on Bryan Bulaga's status for the season has not been made.   Bulaga reportedly suffered at least a partial tear of his anterior cruciate ligament on the 7th play of the Family Night Scrimmage Saturday night.  He continued to play with the first team offensive line for a total of 30 plays.  Initial reports had Bulaga likely to have reconstructive surgery but over the weekend, he decided to seek a second opinion and McCarthy said Bulaga is "still hopeful" of being able to play this season.

McCarthy also announced Jordy Nelson underwent a procedure on his knee that will keep him out for the rest of the Pre-Season.  Nelson likely had an arthroscopic procedure done and McCarthy expects him to still be ready for the regular season opener against San Francisco.

There was more injury news from today's practice.  Datone Jones sat out with illness, Alex Green has a knee issue, Ryan Taylor also injured his knee last Saturday night and he could be out a couple of weeks.  Randall Cobb injured his biceps at practice and Johnny Jolly had to leave with cramps.

McCarthy said the signing of Vince Young was done to increase the competition level at the quarterback position.   He admits Young has a lot of catching up to do, learning the new system and hot having been in an NFL camp since he was released from Buffalo at the end of last summer's camp.  Young took only a couple of reps in team drills in his first practice today.
